Samsung refrigerators: ice makers and warranty terms
The ice maker is the part most often discussed with Samsung refrigerators. A proposed class action filed in New Jersey in 2017, Bianchi v. Samsung Electronics America, alleged that the ice makers built into the doors of French-door models with pull-out freezer drawers were defective: ice buildup and slushy ice, stuck ice buckets, loud noise and water leaking beneath the crisper trays. The case ended in December 2023 after certain owners accepted individual settlement offers; no class-wide settlement was reported. Checks are on the ice maker not working page.
Samsung's US refrigerator warranty is split by part, which matters before you pay for a repair:

So a Samsung fridge whose sealed system fails at year four may still be covered, and a compressor at year eight may still get its parts covered, with labor paid by you.
Samsung washer error codes and what they mean
Samsung washers report most faults with short codes, and Samsung's own support page groups several spellings under each meaning. The codes are a quick way to tell a problem you can clear from one that needs a part.

Two top-load washer recalls to rule out
November 2016. The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Samsung's recall of about 2.8 million top-load washers, 34 models sold from March 2011 to November 2016, because the top could detach from the cabinet during use. Samsung had 733 reports of excessive vibration or the top coming off, and nine injury reports. Owners could choose an in-home repair that reinforces the top together with a one-year warranty extension, a rebate toward a new washer, or a refund if the washer was bought within 30 days of the announcement. Only certain serial numbers were included.
December 2022. A second recall covered about 663,500 top-loaders in the WA49B, WA50B, WA51A, WA52A, WA54A and WA55A series with a Super Speed Wash cycle, which could short-circuit and overheat. The remedy was a software update, sent over Wi-Fi to connected washers.
The Samsung range recall of 2024
In August 2024 Samsung recalled about 1,120,905 slide-in electric ranges sold from May 2013 through August 2024, because front-mounted knobs could be turned on by accidental contact from people or pets. CPSC reported about 250 fires and about 40 injuries. The remedy is a set of knob locks or covers from Samsung for the specific model. The model number is on the inside upper left corner of the oven door or inside the storage drawer. A range with this issue needs the recall remedy, not a paid repair.

Warranty or independent repair?
While a Samsung appliance is under its original warranty, covered repairs go through Samsung's own service network, so contact Samsung first with the serial number. Once the warranty has run out, or for anything it does not cover, any qualified independent company can do the work. Federal warranty law does not let a manufacturer void coverage just because you used independent service or non-brand parts, though damage caused by a bad repair is another matter. Keep your receipts either way.

Will an independent repair void my Samsung warranty?
Not by itself. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer generally cannot make warranty coverage depend on using its own parts or service, and the FTC’s 2021 Nixing the Fix report says the law bars using warranty access to block independent repair. While the warranty runs, though, covered repairs are handled through the manufacturer, so that is the first call.
How do I check whether my Samsung washer or range was recalled?
Read the model and serial number from the label and compare them with the recall notice on the Consumer Product Safety Commission site, or ask Samsung. Only certain serial numbers were included in the 2016 washer recall, so the model number alone is not enough.
Can an independent technician get Samsung parts?
Yes. Samsung refrigerator, washer, dryer and range parts are sold through parts distributors, and independent companies install them routinely. Ask on the phone whether they stock parts for your model or order them, since that decides whether the fix takes one visit or two.
