Who makes GE appliances now
General Electric agreed in January 2016 to sell its appliance business to Qingdao Haier and completed the sale on June 6, 2016, for $5.6 billion. The business kept its Louisville, Kentucky headquarters and the right to use the GE name. GE Appliances describes itself as manufacturing and selling under six brands: Monogram, Café, GE Profile, GE, Haier and Hotpoint. In September 2026 it announced a $1 billion investment at its Appliance Park plant in Louisville to expand laundry production.
Recalls to check before a repair
| Date | Product | Hazard | Remedy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sept 2016 | about 222,000 GE Profile top-load washers (WPGT9350, WPGT9360, WPGT9150) | an electrical component can overheat | repair by GE Appliances |
| Dec 2021 | about 132,000 ranges sold as GE, GE Profile, Café, Haier, Hotpoint, Crosley and Conservator | tip-over if the anti-tip bracket is not secured | in-home bracket inspection |
| Nov 2023 | about 11,000 GE JP3030 electric radiant cooktops | burners can stay on after the knob is turned off | replacement knob assembly |

GE ranges and cooktops
GE range repair and GE oven repair follow the general pattern: a weak igniter on gas ovens, a burned bake element on electric ovens, a temperature sensor that drifts, a spark switch that sticks after a spill. The oven repair page walks through those. The 2023 cooktop recall is worth knowing because its symptom, a burner that stays on after the knob is off, looks exactly like a failed burner switch.
GE laundry and freezers
GE washer repair and GE dryer repair deal with the usual failure points of each design: lid locks and suspension on top-loaders, door locks and pumps on front-loaders, belts, rollers and heat parts on dryers. GE's freezers, mostly chest and upright models, fail in the usual places too; see the freezer repair page for how chest and upright designs differ.

Warranty and independent service
GE Appliances says its warranty is typically one year, with longer coverage on some parts, and that terms vary by model; the owner's manual has the exact wording. GE also puts a one-year limited warranty on replacement parts it sells. While your appliance is covered, contact GE Appliances first. After that, independent companies repair GE, Hotpoint and Café appliances with the same parts.
Calling about a GE appliance
This line connects calls about GE, GE Profile, Café and Hotpoint refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ranges, ovens, cooktops and freezers with independent companies. Read the model and serial number from the label (on ranges, usually inside the oven door frame or behind the storage drawer) and say whether the range is gas, electric or dual fuel.
Questions people ask next
Is Hotpoint the same company as GE?
In the United States, yes. GE Appliances lists Hotpoint among its own brands alongside GE, GE Profile, Café, Monogram and Haier, so Hotpoint ranges and laundry are repaired with the same kind of parts and service data.
How long is the GE Appliances warranty?
GE Appliances says its manufacturer warranty is typically one year, with longer coverage on some specific parts, and that the exact terms are printed in each model’s owner’s manual. The owner’s manual for one GE Profile electric range, for example, covers parts and labor with in-home service for one year from purchase.
My GE range was not bolted to the wall. Is that a repair problem?
It is a safety problem. The December 2021 GE Appliances recall was about ranges that could tip over when the anti-tip bracket was not secured, and every freestanding range should have its bracket engaged. A technician who pulls a range out for any repair should reset it.
